The challenges have been met. All levels required have been achieved. One match remains to complete the tournament, it’s time for the final match. Tensions are at an all time high amoung the players, coaching staff, spectators and even the referees.
Sport has come with many layers for a player to navigate through. The game plan has been set by the coaching staff, the players are communicating on how best to execute the task at hand. The players carry their own emotions as well as the emotions of the coaching staff, their teammates, the opponent ,the spectators and even what the referees has brought to the pitch. The game immediately filled with electricity, sparks are visible and lightening can strike at any moment.
It is very easy to become consumed by the heightened tension, to feed off of the sparks that are emitting from all angles. As a spectator taking all this in and watching this spectacle of mainly negative emotions, do we really believe we are impacting the game for the better? Do we really believe that we are providing the best support for our players? We have witnessed often that any amount of negative comments, insults and sheer frustration being thrown into the pitch will ultimately impact a referees ability to maintain control of the game. And what is the belief here? That shouting the loudest at the referee/players will sway the game your teams way? In these types of high pressures games there are many more factors to deal with. More than “is our team prepared enough?” We should be asking “ are our players mentally tough enough to sustain the negative sparks of energy? Are they fit enough to push past the fatigue? Have they worked enough on regulating their own emotions? Do they have the ability to stay “In the Zone” Are We as coaching staff, spectators and referees capable of letting the game play out?
What I do know for sure is there are many variables on the pitch on any given game day. The community center has brought together a broad range of Humans from all over. To compete, to be entertained, to enjoy the love of sport. These tournaments more often leave you with the craziest story, the craziest situation, remarking at how incredibly crazy the games were, the parents were, the referees were.
Human nature not always packs up their very best self, humans always pack the perfectly perfect imperfections of us all.
Andiamo a giocare!? Forza Calcio!
